Retaining Wall Repair

Newman’s were once again selected to carry out retaining wall stabilisation works to a property in South East London by a domestic client who was impressed with the quality of our specification and customer care.

We were asked to carry out a survey to the retaining wall which was showing minor signs of outward movement which had caused some areas of cracking.

As well as cracking to the retaining wall minor lintel failure had occurred to the rear of the property which went unnoticed by two other contractors.

Using the BRE guide provided to us as a registered contractor for Twistfix we were able to design and suitable programme of repairs and an engineered solution that would provide a permanent repair.

The cracking to the retaining wall on the car park side was repaired with the installation of Bed Joint Reinforcement creating masonry beams using 9mm Twistfix helical bar encompassed in Twistfix WHO-60 masonry reinforcement grout which would resist any further separation. With the cracks raked out and injected with Twistfix Epoxy Acrylate resin this method of repair ensures stability.

On the clients side of the wall crack stitches were installed in various area’s were separation and minor cracking was present which if left unrepaired could lead to serious structural defects.

The minor lintel failure to the rear elevation was repaired again by using Twistfix Bed Joint Reinforcement to create masonry beams distributing the structural loads. Six bricks had to be replaced due to the cracks being the whole way through the brick.

Various areas of repointing was also carried out whilst we were on site as well with mortar matching the existing.

The repairs were guaranteed for 10 years with an insurance backed guarantee which can be extended after the ten year period once inspected.
