Wall Tie Replacement

Newman’s carry out wall tie replacement using high-tensile, stainless steel, helical wall ties.

If left unaddressed, wall tie failure can cause further structural damage and even result in the collapse of the outer wall. Helical wall ties provide a quick and efficient solution and often result in an almost invisible repair.

Cavity Walls were introduced in the very late 18th and early 19th centuries to stop the penetration of moisture into the internal skin of masonry. When cavity wall construction began the inner and outer walls were tied together using randomly placed bricks or stones. This method was quickly phased out with the introduction of iron fishtail ties.

However, iron cavity wall ties are prone to defect, as moisture penetrates the outer skin through failed pointing and cracked masonry, the ties corrode and rust which causes them to swell. This results in horizontal cracking within the bed joint which severely weakens the structure and increases the risk of collapse where the external wall moves away from the internal wall.

Installation of remedial wall ties is carried out by drilling a small pilot holes in the brickwork and pre-determined locations. Stainless steel, helical wall ties are then hammer driven into the pilot hole, reconnecting the inner and outer leaves. The small hole is then filled with colour matched brick repair mortar to provide an invisible repair. Being made from high-tensile stainless steel, the ties are extremely strong and will not corrode.

Cavity Wall Tie Replacement

Timber frames are a modern form of construction and use a timber internal structure with a brick façade. Unfortunately the wall ties that are used are often inadequate and the insertion of remedial timber frame wall ties is required.

In the case of timber frame wall tie replacement, the self-tapping nature of the helical tie causes it to corkscrew into the timber frame providing a secure and dependable connection. Wall Tie Surveys

Newman’s offer an unintrusive wall tie survey using an endoscope and a metal detector to locate the existing ties. On completion of the wall tie survey we provide a detailed report of the condition of the existing ties together with a detailed remedial solution.

As a leading specialist in remedial wall tie solutions, Newman’s are able to offer a 10 year guarantee on all wall tie replacement schemes.
