Movement Joints

In simple terms movement joints allow for movement in walls that have long spans.

Due to thermal and seasonal movement long walls without movement or expansion joints will suffer frequent cracking.

It is therefore vital that expansion joints are created to prevent cracking by allowing for this movement to take place.

Newman’s create movement joints in existing masonry by cutting through the outer skin in a cavity wall or half way through if a solid wall and inserting a foam backing cord. Helical, retrofit wall ties are installed connecting the inner and outer skin of masonry in conjunction with helical slip ties and then a polysulphide mastic is injected and finished to give an aesthetically pleasing finish.

Newman’s specialise in the process of creating remedial movement joints and offer a ten year guarantee for all repairs.
