New Structural Repair Works Underway…

Newman’s teams of Structural Repair Technicians have begun works across London and the South East restoring the Structural Integrity of Failed Masonry.

Investigation works are underway at a block of low level flats in Oxford to discover the cause of subsidence. Investigation works include CCTV drainage inspections, Water pressure testing of incoming mains water supply, Soil investigations and structural diagnosis.

Bay Window Repairs are underway in Fulham, South West London for one of our Principal contractor clients. Newman’s were called in to carry out a Structural Survey and crack monitoring as the bay window was moving outwards causing major concern. A structural repair specification was designed and installation has begun incorporating Twistfix’s Bed Joint Reinforcement and Lateral Restraint Ties which will be provide a permanent insurance backed solution.

Concrete repairs and Anti Carbonation coatings are underway in North London to a commercial shopping precinct and the social housing above as vertical and horizontal cracking had appeared across the structure. the cause of cracking was identified as lack of cover to the concrete reinforcing causing oxidastion of the reinforcing rods and spalling the concrete. An anti carbonation coating is also being spray applied to the concrete structure after the concrete repairs.

Bridge Reinforcement

Bridges and Viaduct Reinforcement.

Across England there are hundreds of bridges and viaducts constructed from brick and random stone usually built using brick arch spandrels, built well over 100 years ago, having not been designed to meet today’s standards with volume and weight of traffic that we have on the roads and railways today many are in need of reinforcement and repair in order to maintain their use.

Many of these structures have fallen into a state of disrepair and must be reinforced in order to keep them open and serving their purpose. Traditional reinforcement is costly and can lead to major road and rail closures and diversions but Newman’s are able to use modern methods of repair to reinforce these structures.

Utilising the Twistfix system we are able to reinforce delaminated spandrels enabling them to withstand the weights and speeds that road and rail vehicles impose in this modern world.

By installing helical bar to the underside of the spandrel and installing grout ties through the spandrel we are able to provide an engineered reinforcement solution that enables the route to stay open and improves the load capacity of these bridges and viaducts. Much of the pointing has failed on the large structures and removal and replacement is a delicate process. Newman’s skilled technicians are able to reinstate mortar that’s loose or missing combined with our structural reinforcement scheme we are able to provide a last guaranteed solution.

Subsidence Repairs

Subsidence is a common structural defect which puts structures in serious jeopardy and at risk of collapse.

Subsidence is common across the South East of England and in areas where the ground conditions are formed up of clay. Clay absorbs lots of moisture during wet periods causing it to swell and lift the foundation and once the ground dries it shrinks back to its original state or smaller which causes the foundation to drop.

There are other causes of subsidence such as vibration from machinery, road traffic, trains etc. As well as vibration other factors such as changes in the water table, failed drainage or incorrect foundation types and depths.

Newman’s are specialists in carrying out subsidence repairs using bed joint reinforcement and piling solutions in order to repair structures with minimal disruption.
