Newman’s were instructed by City Line Construction, who are a reputable general building company, who we have worked closely with carrying out Structural Repairs for previously.
Whilst City Line were carrying out refurbishment works to this property in Fulham, South West London they discovered severe live cracks to the bay window and Newman’s were asked to carry out a Structure Only Reportto diagnose the cause of cracking and to design aBay Window Restraintspecification.
Being Trusted Twistfix approved contractors we have access to their range of remedial products and were able to design a specification which would be approved by Twistfix in order to provide a 10 year insurance backed guarantee.
Bed Joint Reinforcement was installed to distribute structural loads along with Twistfix Patented 450mm CD pinning ties. Combined with areas of resin injection and reinforcement we were able to restrain any further movement and provide a lasting repair solution.
the full case study is available on our case studies section with more information and photographs.

Working for one of our main social housing contacts, Oxford City Council, Newman’s are currently carrying out a small project to reinforce the corners of a set of double story garages.
The structural repairs incorporate Twistfix bed joint reinforcement wrapped around the external corners where separation had occurred leaving cracks upto 10mm’s.
Internally cracks have appeared on the rear walls due to some slight ground movement, again bed joint reinforcement is being utilised to restrain any further movement.
Newman’s and Twistfix are once again working together to Help diagnose and specify crack repairs to failed masonry, the management of this Oxfordshire hospice contacted Twistfix for help and advise regarding Helical Bars and masonry repair following advise from there Structural Engineer.
A large oak tree close the building was the likely cause of the cracking and movement and the tree was removed to help avoid further damage occurring.
Newman’s carried out a Structural Repair survey to the building and provided options of the best form of repairs depending on the outcome of the Crack monitoring.
The crack monitoring period of 12 months showed no further signs of ongoing movement and with the approval of the Structural Engineer a repair scheme was designed involving Helical masonry beams, crack stitches and grout injection.
It is essential that the hospice remains open at all times with minimum disruption, Newman’s structural technicians will use dust extraction and screening to all areas working closely with the hospice management and members of staff.
